For the love of close-ups!
By Danielle Peters
The most
recent film I saw was Brooklyn (2015).
I thought this film is great! It was emotional, inspiring, funny (at times),
and exceptional. The actors and actresses that were casted performed wonderfully
well; Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, and Jim Farrell expressed their characters
completely. It is a really good movie and I recommend seeing Brooklyn. If you have HBO, it’s on
there.
What I
noticed in Brooklyn are the lingering
close-ups that lasted a good 30 seconds or so. Eilis, played by Saoirse Ronan,
was the center of these close-ups. Her face expresses so much about what she is
thinking about without even saying a word. Eilis faces a lot of conflicting
decisions that she is unsure of. For example, Eilis going to America – there are
close-ups of Eilis before she left expressing her mind through the art of facial
expression. I believe that close-ups are very communicative and personal yet
silent.

It's on HBO?!! I know what I'm doing tonight! You do a good job describing the visual appeal of this movie, including its use of close-ups. The gifs and stills are perfect. Mimi
