Hat Transition in Indiana Jones!

“DON’T call me Junior!” – Indiana Jones

I love this type of transition in film - MATCH CUTS.

Match cuts are very unique, creative, yet hard to do. A match cut is where one shot matches the other that is barely recognizable. There are match cuts from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Psycho, Breaking Bad, and more. However, there is one in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that I want to show you all.

In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there is a scene where young teen Indy is causing trouble and got defeated by the "Fedora Man". The man puts the hat on young Indy and *match cut* pops out Harrison Ford as Indy. The match cut served a purpose to show a transition not just from then to now (time), but from young, foolish Indy to adult, adventurous, clever, smart, quick witted Indiana Jones we all know and learn to love.

Below is the video of the transition: - SCENE -
